The 2013 Boston Pride festival was the largest Pride celebration to date in Boston, boasting the best turnout and the most parade marchers ever in its 40 year history. Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates was proud to be part of this history-making event.
Although the weather on June 8, 2013 started out a bit iffy with cold winds and drizzle, it turned out to be a perfect day. Our staff set up the Harvard Vanguard booth early with our trademark colorful balloon decoration at Government Center. This year’s Pride theme was “Moving Forward, Proud, Strong and United,” and we certainly tried our best to realize this year’s Pride spirit.
Not only did staff, family members, patients and friends celebrate together and show our support and commitment to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, but we also provided festival-goers with information about Harvard Vanguard’s commitment to diversity, our great physicians, our wide array of outstanding services (behavioral health, fertility and reproductive health, and our HIV Resource Team, to name a few) and our current job openings. Additionally, we were able to register patients and help them schedule appointments right at our Pride booth.
There was so much love for Boston this year at the 2013 Boston Pride celebration. Not only did Boston have its biggest participant turnout, but Pride also garnered Boston well-wishers from all over the country, such as television personality Rosie O’Donnell and performers Jesse McCartney, Christina Aguilera and Fun. One of the highlights of this year’s festivities was the parade march of former Boston Celtics Jason Collins, the first major U.S. athlete in a major sport to come out as gay. He was joined by his former Stanford University roommate Congressman Joe Kennedy.
The Boston Pride celebration shows the strength and unbroken spirit of the Boston community; we are honored to be a part of it.
